# Shopify Developer / E-commerce Developer (Middle+/Senior)

We are an established US e-commerce company looking for an experienced **Shopify Developer** to take ownership of the technical side of launching and developing our Shopify store.

Our business currently operates primarily through Amazon, with a large product catalog, thousands of SKUs, established fulfillment infrastructure, and significant existing sales volume. We are now building Shopify into a major direct-to-consumer sales channel.

This is **not a small website or a simple theme customization project.**

We're looking for someone who can take ownership of the Shopify project, work closely with our UX/UI designer and internal team, make smart technical decisions, launch the store properly, and continue improving it after launch.

## What You'll Be Responsible For

### Initial Launch
— Help define the technical architecture of the Shopify store
— Build and launch the Shopify storefront from an established design system (not ad hoc Figma files)
— Work closely with our UX/UI designer to turn designs into a fast, polished, conversion-focused experience
— Develop and customize Shopify themes using Liquid, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
— Build custom sections, templates, product pages, collection pages, and landing pages
— Structure a large catalog with thousands of SKUs — products, variants, collections, metafields, metaobjects, filters, and navigation
— Develop an efficient product import and catalog management structure
— Implement advanced search and filtering where necessary
— Integrate Shopify apps and third-party services
— Work with Shopify APIs and webhooks
— Integrate fulfillment and inventory systems, including **Amazon MCF** (we've already evaluated stacks like ByteStand, Sellbrite, and Order Desk for this — prior hands-on experience with any of these is a plus)
— Set up analytics, tracking, and marketing integrations
— Implement technical SEO requirements
— Optimize site performance, Core Web Vitals, and mobile experience
— Perform QA across devices and browsers before launch

We want the store built cleanly from day one — not dependent on dozens of unnecessary Shopify apps.

### After Launch
This is not a "build the website and disappear" project. After launch, expect ongoing development as Shopify becomes a larger part of the business:
— Developing new features
— Improving conversion rate and UX
— Creating new landing pages and merchandising experiences
— Supporting new product launches
— Maintaining integrations
— Working with designers, marketing, SEO, and operations
— Improving performance and site speed
— Troubleshooting technical issues
— Automating repetitive processes
— Continuously improving the Shopify infrastructure

## What We're Looking For

### Required
— Strong commercial Shopify development experience
— Excellent knowledge of Shopify Liquid
— Strong HTML5 / CSS3 / JavaScript
— Experience building or heavily customizing Shopify themes
— Strong understanding of Shopify product, variant, and collection architecture
— Experience with metafields and metaobjects
— Experience integrating Shopify apps and external services
— Experience with Shopify APIs and webhooks
— Git
— Responsive / mobile-first development
— Understanding of Core Web Vitals and storefront performance
— Ability to write clean, maintainable code
— Ability to independently investigate problems and propose solutions

Most importantly, we want someone who can **think beyond the ticket** — not a developer who needs every technical decision explained in a detailed spec, but someone who understands the business objective, spots problems early, and recommends the right technical approach.

### Big Plus
— Large Shopify catalogs / thousands of SKUs
— Amazon → Shopify expansion
— Amazon MCF / FBA integrations
— ERP, WMS, inventory, or PIM integrations
— Product and inventory synchronization
— Shopify Markets
— Advanced Shopify search and filtering
— Shopify Functions
— GA4 / GTM / Meta Pixel and other tracking systems
— Technical SEO
— CRO / A/B testing
— React / TypeScript / Node.js
— Hydrogen / headless Shopify
— Shopify Plus
— High-traffic e-commerce stores

## Who Will Be Successful in This Role

We're looking for someone who thinks like a **technical owner**, not a task-based freelancer.

Instead of: *"Send me the Figma and I'll build it,"*
we're looking for: *"I understand what you're trying to accomplish. Here's how I'd structure it, here are the potential problems, and here's how we build it so we don't need to rebuild everything six months from now."*

You should be independent, responsible, detail-oriented, comfortable making recommendations, strong at problem-solving, genuinely interested in e-commerce (not just development), comfortable communicating directly with business owners and designers, and willing to challenge a proposed solution when you see a better approach.

## About the Company

We're an established US e-commerce business in the Home & Décor category, with significant existing online sales, a large product catalog (thousands of SKUs), established fulfillment infrastructure, an existing internal team spread across multiple time zones, years of product and customer data, and a strong presence on Amazon.

This is not an early-stage startup testing whether people will buy its products. The opportunity is to help us build Shopify into a significant independent sales channel from the ground up.

## Working Format

**Remote.** Open to full-time, part-time, or project-based work during the initial build, with ongoing work after launch. Expect regular overlap with a distributed team (US / Eastern Europe ), so some flexibility on working hours is needed for syncs with design and leadership.

Our preference is a long-term technical owner of the Shopify project, rather than a rotation of freelancers per task.

**Compensation:** Depends on experience, availability, and proposed working arrangement (hourly or monthly retainer both considered) — happy to discuss a specific range once we've talked.

## How to Apply

Send the following to **jobs @ ecomproject.com**:

1. A short description of your Shopify experience
2. Links to 2–5 Shopify stores you personally built or significantly developed
3. What exactly you were responsible for on those projects
4. Your experience with APIs, integrations, and large product catalogs
5. Your current availability
6. Your expected hourly rate or monthly compensation
7. Your CV
8. Written answers to both questions below

### Question 1 — How You Think

Instead of a generic cover letter, answer this:

**You are launching a Shopify store for an established Amazon business with thousands of SKUs and fulfillment through Amazon MCF. What are the first 3–5 technical questions you would ask before starting development?**

### Question 2 — Technical

**Shopify caps products at 100 variants. Our actual SKU-level combinations for a number of products exceed that limit. Walk us through how you'd architect the product and catalog structure to handle this — including the trade-offs of the approach you'd choose over the alternatives.**

We're much more interested in how you think than in a long CV — answers that are clearly copy-pasted or generic will be deprioritized.
